William Carey University (WCU), Shillong is a Private University founded in Meghalaya By an Act of Parliament. It came into existence on 1st March 2005. It provides mainly PG syllabus as well as paramedical, graduate syllabus. The university lays special emphasis on the socio-economic and environmental development of North East India via social, economic, environmental, cultural and academic activities. WCU is operated by Mississippi Baptist Convention in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. It was located in July 1979 and has done commendable work in the education field. It is affiliated to International Council for Higher Education, Zurich, Switzerland, International Council for Open and Distance Education, Asia Theological Association, Guilds and City (UK). The proposal for founding WCU was submitted to the Secretary, Govt of Meghalaya, and Education Department on March 1st, 2006. After a lapse of more than one year, the Governor of Meghalaya accorded sanction for the foundation of the WCU. Thus on the 6 of August 2007, the WCU made a modest start when Dr. K Gnakan was recommended to be the Chancellor of WCU. It is acknowledged by UGC and there on the curriculum of AICTE, Ministry of AYUSH, NCTE, PCI is followed.
